Hello, friends!
If you're reading this, we hope it's because you want to write for The Outfield!
We started The Outfield in 2019 because there wasn’t enough independent NYCFC content we genuinely wanted to read. If you have a compelling story or unique perspective on NYCFC, we’d love to hear your pitch.
What We’re Looking For
We generally publish long-form articles between 800 and 1,200 words, but we’re flexible on length and format. More than anything, we’re looking for:
A strong take: You don’t need to be a seasoned writer—just someone with a smart, well-formed perspective or a great story to tell. We can work with you to make your voice shine in the editing process, but the core idea needs to be yours.
Supporting evidence: Back up your argument with analysis. While we love data, tactical insights, and video analysis, this could also include reporting, history, first-person narratives, interviews, or really anything that adds depth to your piece. If you want to get weird, get weird. If you prefer to write something that typically appears in The Outfield, that’s fine, too.
A reason for readers to care: Is it insightful? Funny? Important? Interesting? Unexpected? Your pitch doesn’t have to check every box, but it should be something our readers will want to read.

While we can’t offer payment for contributions just yet, we’re actively working on making that possible. In the meantime, we’d love to work with you and amplify your voice.
